Raffles Hotel

High tea at the internationally renowned Raffles Hotel. The colonical style building (built in 1887) still stand tall with dignity after all these years.

A large 3 tiered plates were served as soon as we sat at the table. Staff were very friendly and offered to take group photos before we even take out a camera.
The high tea menu is a bit carbo intensive (cakes, scones and dim sum). High tea is like a marathon, we need to pace ourselves especially both buffets and tiered stand are available.

Nasi Lemak

Nasi Lemak is a rice dish cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves. While it is considered to be Malaysian origin, Nasi Lemak is a regular breakfast menu in Singapore as well. My love for Nasi Lemak took me to Malaysia several years ago to take up a cooking class. Caution is required when selecting a store to buy/eat Nasi Lemak as quality varies significantly depending on the shop

.This is a surprise lunch delivery by my colleague - after listening to my monologue on Nasi Lemak. Paper wrapping make it look authentic.

Blu Kouzina

Thanks to my friend's research through her Greek contact, I found Blu Kouzia - an authentic Greek restaurant on Bukit Timah Road. Bookings essential, book early particularly for weekends.

You can enjoy quality olive oil in many dishes at Blu Kouzina including salad dressing and dips for breads. Stuffed vine leaves and Mousaka, classic Greek dish, are definitely worth trying.

Baklava - great for sharing - added a perfect finish to the great dinner get-together.

P.S Cafe is well known for its large size cakes. Their cake display at Paragon Shopping Centre is hard to pass by, however - it is their french fries that I was after. Perhaps the size of the portion is appropriate for sharing with people but I managed to finish the fries by myself. I was craving for chips (french fries) that much - no chips since moving to Singapore. I am now happily french fried out for a while.

St Regis

It is (one of ) my wishes to conquer high teas in Singapore. It could be a difficult task given the number of high teas options available in this City State. Well, I should start my quest anyway. Essentially, there are two styles (1) tiered (usually 3 tiers) tree plates only and (2) hybrid model with tiered high stand and buffet.

I set evaluation criteria as below to make it easier to compare the high tea research in future.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year Open House Partyへ。

On Day 2 of the Chinese New Year long weekend, I was lucky enough to be invited to a Chinese New Year open house party at my friend’s house. Just like the New Year tradition in Japan, this is the time to reunite with family members. Day 2 is the perfect day for the Open house party to gather with family and close friends.

The buffet dinner menu was carefully selected by the host to bring ‘good luck’ to those who share the meal. The highlight of the night was spending time with friends while munching these sweets. The gourmet host went all the way to Malaysia to buy this specially hand-made Chinese New Year sweets for this occasion.

This moreish pineapple biscuits were made by his next door neighbour. I learnt that pineapple means wealth, luck, excellent fortune and a perfect fruit for the Chinese New year celebration.
