ブリティッシュ･カフェ－Marks & Spencer Cafe

Wheelock placeのMarks & Spencer がさらにパワーアップした。イギリスからの輸入野菜や冷蔵食品、乳製品と商品のラインアップも増えた。

特に嬉しいのは、M&S Cafe。ロンドン, Oxford Street店のカフェが小さくなってがっかりしていたところに、なんて嬉しい発見。灯台下暗し。

 

パスタやサンドイッチ、フィッシュ＆チップスからスイーツ、アフタヌーン･ティーまで、いつ訪れてもランチ、カフェ、ディナーと利用できる。

 

今回は夜遅めのカフェ使い。Bakewell Tartは確実にイギリスの味がする。

シンガポール風ハイ・ティー - High tea @ Marriott

シンガポールならではの料理を満喫できる人気のハイ・ティーがあると聞き、早速Mariott Cafeを予約した。１週間前に連絡したらすでに満席とのことだったが、何とかお願いして１テーブルだけ用意してくれた。

スタート時間の３時ぴったりに到着するとすでに行列が。ハイ･ティーといっても、まさにミニ･ランチビュッフェ形式でチキンライスやホッケンミーなどがいっぱい。ホテルでホーカー･フードを味わえる上に、クレープ･ステーションや本格オーブンで焼き上げるピザなどもしっかりと用意されている。

料金も他のホテルのブランチなどに比べずっと良心的。ランチを抜いて十分お腹をすかせてから行こう。

ハイ・ティー - Raffles Hotel

世界的に名の知れたラッフルズ・ホテルのハイティー。１８８７年築の植民地時代の雰囲気を醸し出す都会のオアシスのようなホテルで、時を超えて一流を提供する堂々とした威厳がある。
High tea at the internationally renowned Raffles Hotel.The colonical style building (built in 1887) still stand tall with dignity after all these years.

着席してまもなく、慣れた様子のスタッフが大きな３段皿を持ってくてくれる。頼まなくても進んで記念撮影もしてくるので、かなり観光客対応にも慣れていることが伺える。

A large 3 tiered plates were served as soon as we sat at the table. Staff were very friendly and offered to take group photos before we even take out a camera.

ビュッフェでは飲茶やケーキ、スコーンなど炭水化物過多だが、ラッフルズに来たからには全部食べたい。マラソンのようなもので、最初にビュッフェで頑張りすぎると、アフタヌーンティー・ツリーの２段目あたりでかなり苦しくなる。少しビュッフェ料理を味見して、アフタヌーンティー皿攻略に取り掛かった。

The high tea menu is a bit carbo intensive (cakes, scones and dim sum). High tea is like a marathon, we need to pace ourselves especially both buffets and tiered stand are available.

ハイ・ティー - St Regis

シンガポールのハイティーをいつか攻略してみたい、と思う。あらゆるホテルやレストランでハイティーをやっているので、完全に網羅するのは難しいが、とりあえず始めてみよう。ツリー形式の３段皿のみとビュッフェを兼ねたハイブリッド式があり、価格も種類も場所によってかなり違う。

It is (one of ) my wishes to conquer high teas in Singapore. It could be a difficult task given the number of high teas options available in this City State. Well, I should start my quest anyway. Essentially, there are two styles (1) tiered (usually 3 tiers) tree plates only and (2) hybrid model with tiered high stand and buffet.

将来ハイティー・オプションを比較するのに便利なように、評価ポイントを設定して調査を行うことにする。

 St Regisのハイティーはダンスオプションがあり、’プロのダンサーと一緒に踊る’ハイティー客も。食べ過ぎた際にちょうど良いかも。
